　　1 One man's meat is another man's poison.這是英語的一句諺語，意思是“對一方有利的未必對另一方也有利”。有時可譯作“各有所愛”同時也有漢語俗語“蘿卜青菜各有所愛”的意思。

　　2 would turn at the idea of… turn此處作“惡心”、“作嘔”解。at the idea of…是“想到…”的意思。

　　3 to be brought up，養(yǎng)育，撫養(yǎng)。stick to有“堅持”的意思。

　　5 I happened to be walking in the garden.我碰巧在花園里散步。happen后面加不定式表示"碰巧做..."

　　5 There is no doubt that if she had not lost her rudder she would have won the race easily毫無疑間，如果中途沒有失去舵，“卡蒂薩克”號肯定能在比賽中輕易奪冠。這是一個虛擬語氣的句子，是對過去的一種假設。

　　1 No one can avoid being influenced by advertisements.

　　沒有人能避免受廣告的影響。

　　avoid一詞需接動名詞作賓語，being influenced是動名詞一般式的被動形式

　　這是一個讓步狀語從句，連詞much as可以譯成"雖然很..."
