1.refuse與deny
當refuse作為及物/不及物動詞表示“拒絕接受”時,不可與deny混用:
I offered to pay him for his help but he refused(payment).
他幫助了我,為此我提出要酬謝他,但是他拒絕接受(酬謝)。
但是,當refuse作為及物動詞表示“拒絕給予”、“拒絕要求”時,它與deny可以互相替換:
Captain Fawcett has just refused/denied a strange request from a businessman.
弗西特機長剛剛拒絕了一位商人的奇怪要求。
All those not holding tickets will be refused/denied entry.
無票者不得入內。
deny最常用的含義是“否認(指控、做過某事等)”,refuse則沒有這個意義:
The secretary denies that she has stolen the letter.
那秘書不承認她偷了那封信。
2.bring,take與fetch
bring表示從某處將某物“帶來”; take表示“拿走”;fetch則表示去某地將某物“取來”,是個雙程的動作,(bring與take則表示單程的):
If you're going to the kitchen, would you mind bringing me a glass of water please?
如果你去廚房的話,請給我?guī)П畞砗脝?
Did he bring you a gift last Sunday?
上星期天他給你帶禮物了嗎?
Please fetch me a glass of water.
請幫我取一杯水來。
Take this glass of water to your father.
把這杯水拿給你父親。
3.too與very
very與too都表示程度,very的意思是“非!薄ⅰ昂堋,too表示“太”、“過于”:
This bus is going very slowly.
這輛公共汽車走得非常慢。(very只描述狀況,不涉及后果)
This bus is going too slowly. I'll miss the train.
這輛公共汽車走得太慢了。我會趕不上火車的。(too表示“太……”以至于引起某種后果)
Tom's very clever.
湯姆很聰明。
Tom's too clever. He won't believe such a thing.
湯姆太聰明了,他不會相信這種事的。

1.cut
(1)vt.,vi.切,割,剪:
Would you please cut the cake in half?
請把蛋糕切成兩半好嗎?
I read this story in the paper this morning and cut it out for you.
今天上午我在報紙上讀到這個故事便給你剪下來了。
(2)vt.割破,劃破:
He shaved hurriedly this morning and cut himself badly.
他今天早上匆匆忙忙地刮臉,刮破了不少地方。
(3)vi.橫穿,穿越(介詞用 across/through):
The Wayle cuts across a park.
威爾河橫穿過一個公園。
The road cuts across/through the forest.
這條路穿過森林。
2.row
(1)vt.,vi.劃船:
Have you ever learned to row (a boat)?
你學過劃船嗎?
John rowed across the lake quickly.
約翰很快劃到了湖那邊。
(2)vt.劃船載運:
Can you row me up/across the river?
你能劃船將我送到河的上游/對岸嗎?
He rowed her home.
他劃船把她送回家。

1.experience
(1)n.經歷(可數):
I had an amusing experience last year.
去年我有過一次有趣的經歷。
He told me about his experiences as a young man.
他向我講述了他年輕時的經歷。
(2)n.經驗,體驗(不可數):
They want someone with a lot of experience for this job.
他們想要一位有豐富經驗的人來承擔這項工作。
Does she have any experience in teaching?
她有教學經驗嗎?
(3)vt.經驗,體驗:
Have you ever experienced anything like this?
你經歷過像這樣的事情嗎?
The village has experienced great changes since 1980.
自1980年以來這個村子經歷了極大的變化。
experience的過去分詞常作形容詞用,表示“有經驗的”、“經驗豐富的”:
John is an experienced driver.
約翰是個經驗豐富的司機。
2.save vt.,vi.
(1)救助,搭救,拯救:
The doctor saved the child's life.
那位醫(yī)生救了這孩子一命。
They saved the child from the fire.
他們從大火中救出了這孩子。
(2)儲蓄,積攢:
He saved (money) for years to buy a car.
為了買一輛車,他積攢了多年。
He used to save letters.
他過去常積攢信件。
3.work與job
作為名詞,這兩個單詞都可以翻譯為“工作”,但它們在用法上并不一樣。job為可數名詞,一般與“職業(yè)”、“職位”有關,或表示某人的“份內事”;work作“工作”講時是不可數名詞,常指具體的“勞動”、“作業(yè)”或“(待做的)工作或事務”等,也可能表示“上班:
It was his job to repair bicycles.
他的工作是修理自行車。
John is looking for a new job.
約翰正在找一份新工作。
I'm looking for work as a driver.
我在找一份開車的活。
I've a lot of work to do on Sunday.
星期天我有許多事要做。
