元旦的來歷：西元前46年，古羅馬凱撒把這一天定為西歷新年的開始，為了祝福Janus，這位羅馬神話中的門神，Janus后來也演化為英文一月January這 個(gè)詞。原本以為教皇把耶穌誕生年作為西元元年，西元一月一日也和耶穌有關(guān)聯(lián)，現(xiàn)在看來并非如此。可能依照西方普遍信仰基督教，還應(yīng)該是12月25日耶誕日 為過年，所以西方的新年沒有耶誕隆重。
