Job description: intern – Applied physics or Electrical engineering
Assignment: Detection of internal temperature of a bulk object in a heating process
Proper food processing is essential to nutrition preservation as well as safety. In food processing, heating and cooling are often encountered processes where reliable measurement of volumetric thermal parameters of a food sample is required.
The goal of this intern project is to research on non destructive solutions for sensing the core temperature of food in a heating process, based on theoretical understanding of its volumetric temperature change during heating. A test platform is to be built on which proof-of-principle experiments may be conducted. The project includes the following packages:
1. Literature study on modeling of food temperature variation during a heating process and non destructive temperature sensing solution
2. Evaluate theoretically feasibility of newly proposed sensing solution(s);
3. Build a test setup to conduct proof-of-principle experiments for proposed sensing solution(s);
4. Documentation (including software that implements the model)

The project will last for 3 months, with possible extension depending on the project outcome and needs in due time.
Requirements:

- Masters or PhD student majored at applied physics, electrical engineering or chemical engineering;
- Having knowledge on optics and IR detection is a plus
- Capable of building a small scale test setup and conduct experiments on;
- Passionate on research, open-minded, and a good team player;
- Fair English level in communication and writing.
- Can work at least 3 days per week for 3-6 months
