比較常見的一種說法是blind date。我們來看這句話：
A blind date is a date where the people involved have not met each other previously. The match could have been arranged by mutual friends, relatives or by a dating system。
因為“相親”是“從未晤面的男女經(jīng)第三者安排所作的約會”，這么看來英語中的這個“blind”用得真是相當(dāng)?shù)貍魃衲亍？刹荒芸吹竭@個說法就望文生義地以為是“盲目約會”或“瞎約會”哦。
除此之外，現(xiàn)在網(wǎng)絡(luò)非常發(fā)達(dá)，很多相親的人在約會之前就已經(jīng)在網(wǎng)上看到過對方的照片，甚至用聊天軟件聊天過了。
這樣的“相親”叫做nearsighted date，也就是“近視相親”。我們來看這句話：
As opposed to a blind date, where you have no idea what the other person looks like, a nearsighted date is one where you’ve seen a photo or chatted via web before meeting in person。
所以說“近視相親”是相對于“盲約”而言的，后者在見面前根本不知道對方長什么樣，而前者則事先看過照片或者在網(wǎng)上視頻聊過天。
這聽上去似乎比“blind date”要可靠很多，不過有時候照片也不能代表一切，比如這種尷尬的情況：
The picture he emailed me must have been from before he quit the gym. 我昨天晚上去相親了，他郵件給我的照片肯定是他還在鍛煉身體的時候拍的。
