equal與equivalent近義。但equal指在大小、質(zhì)量、數(shù)量、形狀、價(jià)值等方面相當(dāng)或相等，常用詞組be equal to(等于，和……相等)，而

　　equivalent指在意義、重要性等抽象的方面相當(dāng)或相等。另外，equal可作名詞用，表“對(duì)手”，“匹敵者”。如：

　　exhausting與exhaustive是同根形容詞，但詞義差別很大。exhausting意為“使人疲憊不堪的”，“筋疲力盡的”。而exhaustive表示“徹底的”，“無(wú)遺漏的”，“廣泛的”。如：

　　We had a long and exhausting meeting this morning.今天上午我們開了一個(gè)使人疲倦的長(zhǎng)會(huì)。
