【篇一】
One of the most famous monuments in the world, the Statue of Liberty, was presented to… by the people of France. 世界上的紀(jì)念碑之一的自由女神雕像是……由法國人民贈(zèng)送給……的。
(1)one of 引導(dǎo)的短語(其后面名詞要用復(fù)數(shù))與 the Statue of…為同位語。
(2)the people 通常指某個(gè)國家的人民，指復(fù)數(shù)的“人們”時(shí)通常不用 the：
It was officially presented to the American people by Bartholdi.
它由巴索爾地正式贈(zèng)送給美國人民。
He never pays attention to what people say.
他從不在乎人們會(huì)說什么。
A lot of / Few people went to their wedding.
許多/沒幾個(gè)人參加(了)他們的婚禮。

made of 指用某種材料制成，并且原材料的性質(zhì)或形狀沒變，從成品可以看出其原材料。

take…to pieces 為固定短語，表示“把……拆開/拆散”：
When the machine broke down again, some mechanics took it to pieces.
當(dāng)那臺(tái)機(jī)器再次出毛病時(shí)，一些新概念師便把它拆開了。
This machine is too large to be transported in whole. It has to be taken to pieces first.
