　　On The Purpose of Education Over the decades, people are always debating on the purpose of education and the role of universities. Some people think the university should shoulder the responsibility to create a 100 percent pure academic environment for its students and keep them away from the influence of the society, whatever there are positive ones or negative ones. However, I am holding an opposite opinion against theirs. In our long life, education is a necessary process towards the path of an occupation. We cannot hide ourselves in school forever, except teachers and professors who are devoted to academic research. Since most of us need to survive in the fierce competition in the real world, I believe one of the most important responsibilities for universities is to teach us how to survive through enhancing our skills and increasing our professional knowledge. If we are kept in an ivory tower and never think of our future, how can we fit for work and the society? It is impossible for us to completely adapt to the society the moment we get out go the ivory tower. Of course, universities should create a good academic atmosphere for all the students, so that we can learn more knowledge and keep improving themselves. However, I do not think we should be isolated from the outside world and grow up in the ivory tower. As long as we can learn more practical skills and well prepare ourselves, we can live a better life beyond the university and become useful people for the society and even the whole world.

　　A Critical Attitude Towards Books An old Chinese proverb says, “Believing everything in books is worse than having no books at all.” It tells us to have a critical attitude towards academic books that we have read. In China, many students blindly believe in books and teachers, never thinking whether the knowledge is right or not. However, I never agree that all the knowledge is absolutely right, thus. The critical mind is important for me to read books and learn new knowledge. As we all know, humans thought our world was the center of creation before Copernicus. With the development of science and technology, the scientists find the solar system is only a small part of the universe. At different times, people believe in different „truth‟ that is limited by many external elements such as religion, culture and technology. Thus, I have reasons to believe that what we think is right may prove wrong in the future. People have different opinions towards everything. Take translation as example. Some people like Lu Xun think the translators should completely follow the original materials and imitate the style and language when they translate into another language. However, some argue that target audiences prefer something familiar to them. If a person follows both methods, I do not think he or she can translate anything. The role of theory is to provide guidance for our practice. But it should not be your master who should be completely obeyed.
