首字母縮寫(xiě)是由每個(gè)單詞的第一個(gè)字母組合而成的，比如UN就是指United Nations。短信里，首字母縮寫(xiě)常常被用在習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)中。另外，發(fā)聲相似的詞會(huì)被字母取代。

還有一種是縮略詞。短信的縮略詞不是指一些約定俗成的如"don't" 或 "they're"之類(lèi)的縮略，但兩者的目的是一樣的：即當(dāng)意思很清楚的時(shí)候可將一些不需要的詞省略。元音常常會(huì)被省略，但是你仍然可以保留這個(gè)詞的大概發(fā)音。數(shù)字8有時(shí)候會(huì)發(fā)eight，所以later就寫(xiě)成l8r。數(shù)字4通常也被取代成for，就像2這個(gè)音就替代了to。
