　　1 第1段中有兩個由it is... 引導(dǎo)的強調(diào)句。一個是It is animals and plants which lived in or near water whose remains are most likely to be preserved , 被強調(diào)部分是animals and plants which lived in or near water.另一個強調(diào)句是 it is only in the seas and rivers,and sometimes lakes,... that bodies and the like can be..., 這一句中強調(diào)的是地點狀語。

　　2 set in,到來，開始。

　　3 whether it be plant or animal,dead or alive.

　　這是讓步狀語從句，用的是虛擬語氣形式。

　　1 the 'Vasa',“瓦薩號”戰(zhàn)船。這艘船是以瑞典瓦薩王朝(1523-1654)創(chuàng)始人Gustavus Vasa的姓氏命名的。Gustavus Vasa(1496-1560)曾領(lǐng)導(dǎo)了反對丹麥統(tǒng)治的*，1523年出任國王，使瑞典成了一個獨立、統(tǒng)一、富強的國家。

　　2 the Thirty Years War "三十年戰(zhàn)爭"。這是歐洲歷的一場多國混戰(zhàn)，具有政治和宗教色彩、是新教諸侯和天主教諸侯之間的連年戰(zhàn)爭(161801648),后在1648年簽定了威斯物伐利亞條約，以天主教諸侯失敗而告終。

　　3 a riot of,許多...,主要指色彩豐富。

　　4 with the water churned...,her flags flying,pennans waving,sails filling...,and the red and gold..ablaze...with 后有5個獨立主格結(jié)構(gòu)，均作方式狀語，修飾動詞emerged。

　　2 only too ready to provide,非常樂意提供。在英語中too...to do...的結(jié)構(gòu)通常表示否定，但如果在前面加上only,就有“非常...能做”的意思。

　　4 It is recounted of Thomas Carlyle...,據(jù)說，托馬斯.卡萊爾...(有下面這件).托馬斯.卡萊爾是十九世紀(jì)英國的散文作家和歷史學(xué)家。

　　5 in all probability,很可能。

　　6 put up with,忍受。
